Having heard, that it is the intention, both of the Home and Colonial Authorities, to select a Barrister to fill the post of Chief Magistrate of this Colony (vacant by Mr. Hillier's resignation) I beg to make application for the same;
before His Excellency the Governor for his approval and transmission to the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
It seldom sounds well to hear one Esmerending himself; The Honble. W. J. Mercer, & Colonial Secretary.
